Problem

After performing a mass update to the Featured Image field on Content records (via Data Loader or similar tool), the images appear blank in the edit screen and do not display in documents.

What We Found

The Featured Image field on Content records is a reference field, but images are actually rendered from Content Assignment records. When you update the Featured Image field on a Content record, you must also ensure a corresponding Content Assignment record exists with the Image field populated with the correct image ID. If Content Assignment records are missing or have empty/incorrect Image fields, the featured image will appear blank.

Solution

  1. Update the Featured Image field on the Content records (as you were doing)
  2. For each Content record, create or update a Content Assignment record
  3. On the Content Assignment record, populate the Image field with the ID of the desired image
  4. Verify the Content Assignment is linked to the correct Content record
  5. If replacing existing images: you can update the existing Content Assignment record by replacing the ID in the Image field

Notes

  • The Featured Image field alone is not sufficient - Content Assignment records are required for images to render properly
  • When using Data Loader for mass updates, include both Content records and Content Assignment records in your update
  • If images were working before and stopped after a mass delete operation, check if Content Assignment records were accidentally deleted

Warnings

โš ๏ธ Deleting Content Assignment records will cause associated images to stop displaying, even if the Featured Image field is still populated
