Problem
Customer reported that markup was not being applied to taxes when importing PNR flights. They expected the configured markup to apply to both fare and tax price lines.
What We Found
This is intentional behavior by design. Companies are legally not allowed to apply markup to taxes. The system ensures that tax/fee price lines always have the same cost and selling rate (cost = sell price). Only the fare portion can have markup applied.
Solution
- Confirmed with product expert that this is intended behavior
- Explained to customer: markup on taxes is ignored by design during PNR import and refresh
- Clarified that fare can be marked up, but taxes cannot due to compliance requirements
Notes
- Even if markup is configured for the taxes add-on on PNR flight services, it will be ignored during PNR import and refresh
- This is a compliance-driven design decision, not a bug
- This behavior applies to all customers using PNR import functionality
Warnings
โ ๏ธ Do not attempt to configure markup for taxes on PNR flights - it will not work and this is by design
